The Computing Department is a large, thriving department with an active research programme and a deep commitment to teaching. A PhD studentship funded by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computing is available to further strengthen our Software Engineering research.
The position is not linked to any project and therefore a wide choice of topics is possible. Candidates with a strong interest in research in software architecture, requirements engineering, coordination, software evolution, program analysis or model transformation are especially sought.
The studentship is available immediately and for a period of 3 years. It covers fees and pays a tax free salary of £12,000 per annum (from academic year 05/06 on). In addition, the successful candidate will have a £1,000 grant per annum to be spent on career development activities. All PhD students of the Computing Department are encouraged to attend the weekly post-graduate research advice forum provided by the recently formed Computing Research Centre. Being a distance-education university, only staff and PhD students are on campus, which makes for a very peaceful environment ideally suited for concentrating on research. The campus is located in Milton Keynes, about 1.5 hour drive from London, Oxford and Cambridge, and easily accessible from Luton airport by bus.
Candidates should send a CV, the contacts of two referees, and written evidence of previous work (e.g., MSc Thesis or final undergraduate project) to Michel Wermelinger by e-mail (m.a.wermelinger@open.ac.uk). Applications will be considered immediately upon their receipt.
