For those who don't know it's the new 'epic' martial arts film from China starring Jet Lee and Produced by Tarantino. It is essentially the story of one mans adventure against three assassins, told from three different perspectives.

In the same cinema as me a bunch of guys walked out after half an hour. Probably because there was too much beautiful cinematography and brilliantly constructed scenes that any photographer would be in awe of... and not enough blood and killing. Yeah it is a bit like that. But the fighting is still pretty good if that’s what your after.

The most obvious comparison to this movie is Crouching Tiger. Fighting on ropes is of course evident, as is the subject of martial arts and kicking your opponents ass being something spiritual.

The pros:
The most beautiful film this year.
Some well constructed fight scenes.
A fairly unpredictable story.
Lots of arrows.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

The Cons:
Can be a bit slow if you don't care for the cinematography.
No blood.
Some of the screaming near the end hurt my ears.

What are your thoughts?

I haven't been to the movies yet to see it but I saw it 4 months ago Shocked . Couldn't find it in English but because the movie looked so amazing I decided to see it in Mandarin Rolling Eyes (I don't speak Mandarin). Well it was an interesting experience Mr. Green

Incredible movie indeed. Saw it some years ago when it came out in China, and I just had to see it again when it played here. Chinese fantasy is a world on its own. It amazes me how they combine music, scenery, fighting and plot all in one package. I mean, the part where they're fighting in the forest, where all the leaves are golden brown. And how they're moved by the wind and the movements of the fighters... And what about the scene near the end, where they're fighting on the lake? Incredible I thought. It's simply majestic how they show you a fight yet make you feel completely relaxed and in total peace. I say, 5 stars for Hero.

i loved the scene in the forest with the leaves, it was good how it all faded to red as well

one this i thought was really well done was the colour schemes throughout the film
